Week 6 is here. Unbelievable. The last month and a half flew by. I want to start out by saying how incredibly happy I am that I chose to remake our side yard in to a garden. I loved designing it and then watching it come to life. It went from an eyesore to one of my favorite places to relax. In fact, I’m relaxing in the garden, drinking a cup of coffee and writing this post. Week 4: One Room Challenge the Kitchen Garden
I’ve been getting a lot of questions as to what the One Room Challenge is. I guess I should have done a better job of introducing it in the beginning. The One Room Challenge or ORC as people like to call it, is a 6-week long design challenge where a designer will choose a room and feature it’s transformation over a 6 week period. It’s held biannually in April and October. This April over 300 guest designers are doing the challenge as well as 20 Featured Designers. Week 2: One Room Challenge The Kitchen Garden
It was really important to me to spend the first week getting as many plants in to the ground as I could because this would give me as much grow time as possible. If you look at the pictures right after planting you’ll see why: if I had waited until the very end the plants wouldn’t be filled in and it would look like a pinterest fail. A few months ago while visiting my parents Mike and I grabbed about 16 of my dad’s old scaffolding planks. He’s a retired stucco contractor but still has a yard full of supplies.
